Poems express feelings or emotions you might have, but are too embarrassed to say it so you write your feelings in a poetry way. A poem can be rhyming or it can be said at a faster pace, these are mostly children poems, but the complicated poems are more aimed to an older age group such as teenagers.
A poet is someone who expresses their thoughts and feelings through poetry. There are many famous poets whose work is extremely influential.
Poets may focus on one particular type of poem or they may cover a variety of genres. William Shakespeare produced a number of sonnets which all had similar themes such as love and he also produced a number of other poems.
Poetry is usually written in an expressive manner. This particular type of poetry is known as lyric poetry and the American poet Emily Dickinson was well known for her lyric poetry, which was written during the American Civil War.
Poets produce poetry for various reasons. Some may write lyric poetry which is more personal and others may write to entertain others and include humour (a number of Shakespeare's sonnets parodied particular themes such as love and beauty).
The Poets' Corner in Westminster Abbey is a famous place where many dead poets lie (Geoffrey Chaucer was the first poet to be buried there).
A poem is a piece of writing which expresses thoughts or feelings. Poems usually include the use of irony and symbolism. Poems usually consist of verses and may or may not rhyme. Poems which are written for younger children are more likely to contain rhyme, shorter verses and may be read at a faster pace. The use of alliteration may be more apparent in poems for younger children.
Different types of poems include:
Sonnet - the sonnet is the most popular form of poem. Sonnets are usually connected with poems about love. Shakespeare produced many well known sonnets, some of which can be found in the Oxford Book of English Verse.
Ode - an ode is a lyrical poem which is structured into three parts (strophe, antistrophe and the epode).
There are many different genres for poems including epic poetry (narrative literature centered around mythical or heroic people), narrative poetry (poems which tell a story), dramatic poetry (written in verse), lyric poetry (usually describes the poet's feelings and thoughts).
A composition written of lyrical and rhythmical lines which forms into a stanza. There are many different types of poems. A poem is usual writen out of emotion, ideas, and experiences. May be you should read the poem " Raven" by Edgar Allen Poe.
The answer to this question is as complex as the answer to the question, "what is a poet?" is. Wordsworth's definition of poetry counts a lot while defining a poem. In "Prelude", he puts poetry as, "spontaneous overflow of powerful emotions". In this way, a poem becomes an expression of powerful emotions of a poet. I think there cannot be a better definition of poem than the one I have just mentioned. There have been various thinkers, philosophers and poets who have been trying to define a poem but no one's answer has been accepted as a final and authoritative answer. In the modern and post modern age, poets like Larkin and Ted Hughes mark poem as an unconscious effort of creation. An earlier and more widely understood concept of a poem is that anything written in rhyme is a poem. But for Larkin and Hughes and many of the modern poets, this definition fails. They believe that it is not necessary for a poem to have a rhyme scheme. If we were to accept the definition that anything written in rhyme is a poem, most of the modern poetry dies and we would have to have a new genre in literature for such kind of writings.
A poet is someone who writes his or her thoughts in a creative way so that he or she may project his or her idea of the topic that he or she may be writing about.
This is not an easy question to answer. Apparently, it seems to have a simple answer that poet is the one who writes poems. But if you talk about the philosophical aspects of the word, you will probably drown into the ocean of literature but won't be able to find a final, definite answer for the question. If you were to ask this question from Plato, he would tell you that a poet is the most insignificant part of a society and hence he could not find any place for him in "Polis". But if this question was put in front of Aristotle, he would say that poet is the one who imitates nature in written from by decorating it with different ornaments of writing. And yet for Wordsworth, a poet would be the one who can have spontaneity of expression. For Keats, he would be a man who would be seeking a constant refuge from the bitter and harsh realities of life. For Seamus Heaney, he is a man who renders hope to humanity and maintains the equilibrium in society by adding weight to the lighter scale. And yet for an ordinary man, he is the one who is always lost in deep thoughts and has no concerns with practical implication of his thoughts.
