The poem 'A River' by A.K. Ramanujan has a very deep meaning. The poem shows the view of Ramanujan against the orthodoxy of the Hindu religion as well about the old poets and the new poets. Ramanujan criticised the old poets for writing poems bout the river and the cause cause by the river during the rainy seasons. Both the old and Modern poets doesn't care for the other people suffering from the flood but only about their poem. The Modern poets only followed what the old poets had done n the past. Ramanujan wants to show us how self centered and selfish are the poets. They just wrote what they saw not what they really felt. About the Hindu Religion, Ramanujan was against their orthodoxy rules. All in all Ramanujan wanted to tell us that most of the time most of the wannabe poets wrote what they saw and experience rather than the one they saw and felt.
A k ramanujan tries to tell us that the old poets as well as the new poets are only caring about the poem he or she writes not the suffering caused by the river.
A river is about the media and how it sensationalises issues instaed of beingg humanitarian
A k ramanuja has tried to add an element of humour in this poem. The reason behind it is that the poet knew the names of the cows carried away by the floods but he did not know the names of the pregnant woman.
