What Is The Summary Of 'A River' By A K Ramanujan?

In Madurai, the city of temples and poets,every summer Vaikai river dries to a drop in the sand which causes the sand ribs to be exposed.Straws and women's hair clogs the water gates which have become rusty due to continuous contact with water.The bridges have signs of repair all over them.The wet stones are compared with sleepy crocodiles and the dry stones are compared with water buffaloes sunbathing.The poets only sang of floods because floods attract poets.The poet visited the place for a day when there were floods.People worried about the inches of water level rising and no. Of cobbled steps of the bathing place run over by the water.It carried off 3 village houses,1 pregnant woman and a couple of cows named Gopi and Brinda.The new poets blindly followed the own poets without ideas of their own.No on worried about the pregnant woman drowned with possible twins in her who wanted to come out.The poet said that the river had enough water to be poetic only once a year which carried away in the first half hour  3 houses,2cows and 1pregnant woman expecting identical twins with no birthmarks on their bodies wearing different- coloured diapers to recognize them.
              The main theme is the criticizing of the new poets about being fascinated by flood.The new poets write about the attraction of flood but they overlook the consequences.

A river is a poem about the way poets(i.e. The media) always sensationalise an issue and present the statistics without any humanitarian feelings. The poet uses sarcasm in gopi and brinda to show just how focused on trps they are...

The poem is about a river that every summer it dries .. Bt some floods come which drown many people in Bathing areas. A pregnant expecting identical twins, a couple of cows named gopi and brinda and three village houses were carried away with the flood.
