The plot in a story can also be called a storyline and is the main part of the tale. The plot is the structure of events that lead certain things to happen. Withouth a plot, a story would have no fluidity and would not be easily understood.
A plot usually contains the 4 W’s and the one H. These are: When, What, Why, Who and How. If a plot does not answer all these questions then it is not a proper plot as it will mean there is no real structure to the story.
In his poetic times, Aristotle greatly respected the necessity to use a plot in stories and poems alike. He said that "A plot must have, a beginning, a middle, and an end, and the events of the plot must causally relate to one another as being either necessary, or probable.” Which is a brilliant description of what a plot is and what it needs to be.
However, a plot is made up of many more parts than just a beginning, middle and end. But without all these three elements being present and in chronological order, the story would not make sense and would not guide the reader through the events of the story with ease.
