Researchers have traced over 700 versions of the Cinderella story from around the world both written and told in many different languages. First recorded in China in the ninth century the Cinderella story is first recorded in written form in Europe in 1634. In 1697 the story now familiar across Europe and America was written by a man named Perrault . His "Cinderella, or The Tale of the Little Glass Slipper" contained in his Histories or Tales of Past Times forms the template for modern version of the story. Its success as a Disney animation and a ballet and its annual appeal as a much love pantomime increases the evidence of its popularity.
