In 1623, two of Shakespeare's actor friends, John Hemmings and Henry Condell, put together a First Folio of Shakespeare's work. Unfortunately, they could only remember about 18 plays! (There were no record of any Shakespearean plays at all!) This Folio, was added to, and re-printed, several times over the centuries, until now, so that we now have a canon of something like 40 works, all attributed to Shakespeare, plays poems etc, with the Sonnets also to be included.
