How Many Films Based On William Shakespeare's Romeo And Juliet Have Been Made?

There have been a number of films based on the character of Romeo and Juliet that have been made over the years. It started of with the 1908 film called Romeo and Juliet. It was a silent film that was directed by J. Stuart Blackton and was made in Central Park in Manhattan. Then came the 1936 film of the same name starring Leslie Howard and Norma Shearer and was directed by George Cukor.

In 1954 there was another Romeo and Julliet film starring Laurence Harvey and Susan Shentall. This film was directed by Renato Castellani. The Romeo and Juliet movie of the year 1968 starred seventeen year old Leonard Whiting as Romeo and Olivia Hussey a fifteen year old Juliet. A 1982 film called The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet which starred Alex Hyde-White and Blanche Baker. Romeo-Juliet in 1990, William Shakespeare Romeo + Juliet in 1996 and finally Romeo & Juliet: Sealed with a Kiss in 2006.
