His most famous 4 tragedies are said to be King Lear, Othello, Hamlet and Macbeth. Overall, Hamlet is most widely regarded as his greatest text across the board. However, Romeo and Juliet is also classified as one of his most famous plays (NB: Most famous does not equate to "best" or "most acclaimed"!!), and I believe The Tempest, A Midsummer's Night Dream and The Merchant of Venice are 3 of his most famous comedies. Shakespeare is more acknowledged for his tragedies than his comedies, so ultimately it would be the four mentioned at the top of this answer. Julius Caesar is his 5th "best" play.
