Enid Blyton wrote an estimated eight hundred books over the course of her forty year career. She wrote various series, rather than stand-alone novels, with these being the most popular or well-known:
The Noddy Books
Aimed at young children, the Noddy series is set in Toyland, and details the adventures of a little wooden toy named Noddy. The exact number of Noddy books is hard to count, as there have been several different formats and spin-offs. The lowest count is twenty-four.
Adventures and Detective Stories: The Famous Five and The Secret Seven
Both the Famous Five and Secret Seven series focus on a group of children (after whom the series are named) who make it their business to solve local mysteries and go on adventures. Blyton also wrote several other series in the same vein, including the Five Find-Outers series. There are fifteen books in the Secret Seven series, and twenty-one in the Famous Five collection.
Boarding School Stories: Malory Towers, St. Clare's and The Naughtiest Girl
With plots based around the day-to-day life at boarding school, these books tend to focus on midnight feasts, friendship groups, practical jokes and sneaking around the school at night. There are six books in the Malory Towers and St. Clare's series, and four in The Naughtiest Girl.
About Enid Blyton
Enid Blyton was a prolific children's author from Britain, writing between 1922 and 1968. Due to changing attitudes in society, some of her work is now seen as being politically-incorrect, sexist, or racist, but her stories still enjoy popularity among children. Enid Blyton also wrote under the pen-name Mary Pollock.
