Losing someone you love

when you wake in the dark
and forget where you are
for a split second,
you Panic
you're frightened, you're scared
then it comes flooding back
you reconize your surrondings
and go back to speep

losing someone you love
is waking in the dark
and not knowing
and not feeling
shaking in the dark
the voice is gone

losing someone you love
is dreams of agony
and reality of pain
screaming voices, kees, locks,
a broken heart
kept in chains

losing someone you love
is dark corridors that don't end

in dead ends
yet you come back
and try them again

losing someone you love
is smiles
and sunshine
and rain
that mean nothing to you
because your world is gray

losing someone you love
is tears by a grave
falling down
staying down
then walking again

losing someone you love
is not forgetting
not ignoring
but learning...

"How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
… I love thee with the passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.
… - I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears of all my life! - and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death."

- E. B. Browning –

"Do not Stand at My Grave and Weep"

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there; I did not die.

-Mary Elizabeth Frye-

For Just A Momentby Brenda Penepent
For just a moment
I'm sure I saw
a flicker of light ahead.
Perhaps it was your smile.
Though past now, remembered,
in my heart
like the small sound of
a butterfly passing by.
No night
is so dark
that can not be brightened
with memories of you
Raindrops carry along
your blessings from heaven
to wash away my tears
and bring me hope anew.

Safe Harbor
by Jennifer Hickok
The storm has been raging for so long now
Pouring rain, crashing thunder, howling wind
Beating down on this lonely ship
Searching for a place to call home
There was a time; it seems so long ago
The sun shone brightly in the clear blue sky
Looking up from the bow into forever
A gentle breeze, cotton candy clouds
But the storm slowly moved in
A few scattered showers and thunderstorms
Days of downpour, flashes of lightning
With shelter so hard to find
Rainbows still shone, beacons of hope
In the unlikeliest places
Vibrant against a backdrop of gray
A glimpse at the best of times
As the years passed by
The storms changed, getting worse
Getting better, and fading away
But they'd left their mark
A vessel is forever changed
When touched that way
And although you can rebuild
The damage has been done
Horrible storms had been forecast
For the not so distant future
But they wouldn't hit this ship
Not again, no more damage would be done
The ship will be protected now
Lost no more, tossed about no longer
Safe in a harbor to forever call home

WH Auden's "Stop All the Clocks" is one of the classic poems on bereavement - it was read aloud in the film 4 Weddings and a Funeral. You can find it here.

-  You meant so much to all of us,you were special and thats no lie.
You brightened up the darkest day and the cloudiest sky, your smile alone warmed our hearts, your laugh like music to our ears.
I would give absolutely anything to have you well and standing near. Not a second passes when your not on my mind.
Your love we will never forget many tears I have seen and cried, they have all poured out like rain, I know you are happy and no longer feel any pain.
Only god knows why he took you that dreadful day.
I miss you more and more with each passing day my in my heart you will forever stay...

-If tears could build a stairway and memories were lane.we would walk all the way to heaven to bring you home again.
No farewell words were spoken,no time to say good-bye.
You were gone before we knew it,and only god knows why.
Our hearts ache with sadness and secret tears will fall, what is meant by losing you no-one will ever know...
