Sookie Stackhouse is the main character of The Southern Vampire Mysteries which was adapted by HBO into the popular True Blood series in 2008. The books can be bought in bookshops or on websites such as amazon, or downloaded as e-books, which are becoming more popular with the increasing use of smartphones and tablets that have applications that allow the user to read the books. It is, however, illegal to read them online for free as they are protected by copyright laws and doing so will prevent the author, Charlene Harris, from making a profit on her work. This could result in her stopping writing books as if too many of them are pirated then she will not be able to sustain her lifestyle. Those who distribute the books online can be and in some cases are prosecuted by the publishers and the copies of the works are removed. Some books are available online, however these are usually classics whose copyright has expired, while most modern books, including The Southern Vampire Mysteries and other well know titles such as the Harry Potter books are not available as they are protected by copyright laws. Books in public domain are also free to download and read in PDF format. These can be found in the Google books search. An alternative to reading books online is going to a local library, where books can be borrowed for free or at least they can be in the UK. Although some selected books can be read online, for the above reasons it is difficult and not advised to search and read most of them online.
