THe irony in the story The Open Window is the fact that while reading the story the reader understands that the unfortunate Mr. Nuttel falls victim to Vera's story, yet the reader does not see that he also falls victim in Saki's story. At first  the reader inclined to laugh at Nuttel for being so naive. However, the reader, too, has been taken in by Saki's story and must realize  that he or she is also naïve and is inclined to believe a well-told and interesting tale.
