From the age of seven, Shakespeare attended The King's School, in his hometown of Stratford-upon-Avon. At the age of nine, he was introduced to Latin by his tutor Simon Hunt, who persuaded Shakespeare's mother, Mary Arden, to buy her son a Latin "crib". She bought him Ovid's "Metamorphoses". Today, a similar act, would be for a mother to buy her nine year old son the complete set of "The Lord of the Rings" or, "The Harry Potter " stories. Shakespeare was delighted! And kept Ovid by his side all his life!  Of course, he would rely on the works of others as well, Raphael Holinshead, Sir George North and Sir Edward Hall, for instance, but Ovid can be found in nearly all his efforts, from comedy,( Two Gentlemen of Verona) to tragedy,(Titus Andronicus).
