The manuscript of Jane Austen's most famous novel was written at Steventon Rectory in the United Kingdom between the year 1796 and the year 1797. At the time of writing the manuscript of her novel, Austen had originally entitled the book First Impressions, but it was revised and first published on January 28, 1813.
Pride and Prejudice is one of the earliest (and also one of the finest) novels which was written in the romantic comedy genre. It has one of the best-known opening lines in contemporary English literature, which goes as follows: It is a truth collectively accepted that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.
The main characters in the novel Pride and Prejudice (which was also adapted on the big screen in a movie version) were Elizabeth Bennet, Fitzwilliam Darcy, Mr. Bennet, Mrs. Bennet, Jane Bennet, Lydia Bennet, Charles Bingley, William Collins and George Wickham.
