There are several important factors to remember when writing any letter; the format, the content and the tone. There is a correct format to how addresses, names and dates should be presented. There is a good example of a letter format.

Dear Sir / Madam
I am writing you an example letter to give you an idea of the way a letter should be formatted. It is important that the sender's address is on the top right corner of the page and the receiver's address is on the left-hand side of the page, just below it. This ensures that the address is in the right place for an envelope with a window, and also the receiver has somewhere to post a reply to.

The content should always be clear and concise. Nobody wants to read an extremely long letter if a short one can relay the same information. Irony and sarcasm are very difficult to relay in a letter as is the tone of voice, so it is very important to make sure that the language conveys both the correct meaning and manner.

It is also important to remember that a letter is not simple to reply to and that reply may take a long time. Therefore, there is little point in asking many questions in a letter. If a question is misunderstood, then the a long time can be wasted before you have a chance to ask the question again, so it is important to keep questions to a minimum, and make sure questions are particularly clear in their meanings.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully
