This is undoubtedly a book by the Roman author Publius Ovidius Naso, known today as Ovid. His "Metamorphoses" was bought for young William by his mother, Mary Arden, when her son was first introduced to Latin by his tutor Simon Hunt. It became his favourite, being mentioned in an early play "Titus Andronicus". A theme of A Midsummer Nights Dream is also taken from it, when the 6 mechanicals
