William Shakespeare is one of the most prominent personalities of English literature. He has numerous contributions to English Literature. Because of these, he is often called as National poet of England and Bard of Avon.

Shakespeare was born on 26 April, 1564 in Stratford Upon Avon. He began his writing career somewhere between 1585 - 1592. He was not only a writer but also an actor, poet and owner of a theater company.

The five plays that he wrote during 1594-1599 are as follows:

- Comedy of errors (written between 1589-1594)
- Love Labor's Lost ( mid 1590)
- Merchant of Venice
- The Merry Wives of Windsor ( 1597)
- A Midsummer Night's Dream ( 1594- 1596)
