Louis Sachar is the author of the book, 'Holes'. Published in 1998, it is geared for kids in grades five through eight. It won the Newberry Medal and the National Book Award. It has even been made into a film starring Shia LeBeouf. Other stars were Sigourney Weaver, John Voigt and Patricia Arquette.

The story focuses on the troubled boy, Stanley, who gets accused of a crime he didn't commit. As a result, he gets sent to a weird juvenile detention camp called Camp Green Lake, which is located in a Texas desert. The warden of the camp makes the kids dig holes all day, in order to build their character. Stanley soon figures out that the warden is in fact looking for something - buried treasure.

'Stanley Yelnat's Survival Guide to Camp Green Lake' is a companion book to 'Holes'. Both books are fun and colourful, and teach kids to believe in themselves.
