If you haven't read the Harry Potter series yet, I highly recommend them. There is also another good series called The Dresden Files, by Jim Butcher. They are all good reads.

It depends what you're interested in Roy. Think about the type of movies you like and get a book like those movies. You'll find that most of the time the book is better than movie because you're using your imagination.
There are some kinds of children's books that are worth reading, as they are educated for the learners, specially are for the beginners. Further more, reading is good for remembering some vocabularies and some good expressions or some phrases.
