According to most dictionaries, Robin Hood's golden age was sometime in the 12th century, though I find this in my own research, quite early for one like robin hood to have lived.  In folktale it says late 12th century, possibly sometime around the 13th century.  Obviously he was before the conquistadors, so he had to have lived sometime between the year 1200 and 1350 AD.

Robin Hood is also known as Robin Wood, Robert Earl of Huntington, Roberd Hude, and Robert Hood. He lived in Sherwood Forest and the village of Nottingham somewhere during the medieval ages. However, no sources claim the exact period of his life and legend in the Sherwood Forest.
Robin stands as the brave man of the universal people and yeoman and a figure of "right against might". Because of the Sheriff of Nottingham's and Prince John's oppressive law and utilisation of the ordinary people in Nottinghamshire, Robin unified his associates and rebelled in opposition to the Sheriff. In most of his tales he is well known for "robbing the rich and giving to the poor." You can easily see how his subsistence passed down all the way through folk tale and has been unclear in time.
