The character of Tintin was created by Georges Remi (pseudonym Hergé ) on January 10, 1929. Tintin was based on Totor, one of Hergé's characters which was in turn inspired by his brother.

This famous comic strip narrative first appeared in French (Les Aventures de Tintin) in which Tintin, like Tortor was a boy-scout. In later episodes Tintin is a teenage Belgian reporter who inadvertently gets involved in dangerous cases, solves them and heroically saves the day.

Tintin's has a strong boy-scout character with a generous dose of bravery, high ideals and a moral sense of duty. The rest of his character is generally kept a little vague, some would say almost bland. However, this is what allows the reader to envision himself as Tintin and participate in the adventure rather than watch the mystery unravel. Tintin and his faithful dog Snowy were later joined by Professor Calculus, Captain Haddock Madame Castafiore and Thomson and Thompson.
