In most cases you will be offered the facility of a bank locker through your local branch, so there may not be a need for a request letter. It may simply consist of you going to your bank in person and sitting down with an advisor or the manager about requesting a locker. However, if a request letter is the option for you then the format is as follows:
- It is important that this letter is written in a formal style and I advise you to type the letter rather than hand write it. Place the date at the top of the letter with your address underneath. Then you should type the recipient's name and address on the other side, which in this case will be the bank manager's name and the branch address.
- Below the recipient's address you should type your greeting, which should read as 'Dear Mr/Mrs (bank manager's surname)', and then you can proceed to the body of the letter. In the first paragraph you should explain that you are requesting the use of a bank locker. You must be direct in your statement but do not come across as rude or demanding.
- The following paragraph should state the reasons why you would like to request a bank locker and what you intend to store in it. You should give enough details but try not to go off on a tangent, always stick to the point.
- You need to also give your bank details so they know which customer you are and how they can find you on the system. In addition, you should say that you are happy to come into the branch to discuss the matter further.
- Close the letter by thanking the bank for their consideration and that you hope to hear from them soon.
