Having a sudden itch to read ‘The Last Olympian’ online, I wondered if it were possible to do that at no cost. I found two choices. The first one was OnRead, found here www.onread.com They show several different ways to download the book, although it seems that whichever way I chose, it still brought me back to their new file format called .umf format.
They do state at the top of the page that this is something new, but if one finds themselves, like me, on a computer that doesn't have the update, it can be a nuisance unless you want to go searching for what opens this file. I didn't.
The second site is called Scribd, found here www.scribd.com/ and though it seemed a strange name to me, looked like quite an interesting place. I commenced to type in ‘The Last Olympian’ and was pleasantly surprised to see that there are more than one stored here to read. Beside each one is a right-handed column showing how many people have read the book as well as when it was uploaded and Readcasts (how many have shared this book with their friends).
You can read right online and there is a marvellous bar at the bottom that allows you to navigate each page through the book up or down, and an ingenious spot to actually search for something specific within the book. There is also a zoom in and zoom out, add to your collection, add a comment or download.
If you click download you will be asked to sign in to Facebook, so it is indeed attached to that. Although I am on Facebook, I chose to read it as I saw it for the moment and investigate the rest later.
All in all this is by far the superior place to read ‘The Last Olympian’ online for free and also to find many other things. Something I am going to investigate much more!
