Mirza Asad Ullah Khan Ghalib was born in 1797 and lived till 1869. He was the court poet in the royal court of the last Mughal Emperor, Bahadur Shah Zafar.

Mirza Ghalib's poetic works are written both in Persian and Urdu but he is most famous for his collection of 2,000 Urdu couplets that he selected himself. The main themes of his poetry focus on his fluctuating personal fortunes, the stagnation of the Indian society and the taking over of the British of his beloved Country and especially his city Delhi especially during the revolt of 1857.

Mirza Asad Ullah Khan `Ghalib', who used Ghalib as his Poetry name, is said to be the last classical poet and the first modern poet of the Indian sub continent. Mirza Asad Ullah Khan Ghalib emerged as symbol of the syncretism of the culture and the ethos of India. Even though Ghalib himself held his Persian poetry in great regard, it was his Urdu poetry which he is most known for today. Mirza Ghalib's Urdu poetry left an indelible mark on the hearts of the Indian people. His Urdu poetry has till date enthralled generations. People love him irrespective of their cultural or religious backgrounds. Mirza Ghalib prided himself on claiming to be an elitist poet, as he was a poet in the royal court. How ever, the collection of his poetic works known as Divan-e-Ghalib, which is written in Urdu, made him a poet of the masses who was loved and read by all socio-economic classes.

You've asked a question that is related to literature and poetry. You asked about a great poet of Urdu and Persian language. He is considered one of the greatest poets of Urdu. Due to him, Urdu language developed a lot. His poetry is considered as the masterpiece of imagination and poetic rhythm.

Many poets after him tried to follow his style of poetry. He wrote only one book of poetry in Urdu but it is enough for him to give him honor and respect he deserved. He was more proud on his Persian poetry rather than urdu but his Persian poetry was not as famous as his Urdu Poetry.

His prose is also splendid. Though, the only thing available as his prose is his letters to different people of his age. He also served as the poet in the court of the Mughal King Bahadur Shah Zafar.

He was also a well manner person but he spent most of his life in poverty and he was addicted of wine. That was the negative points in his life.
I think this knowledge is enough for you to know about one of the greatest poet of Urdu language. Thank you very much for asking.
