Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn is not a trilogy. However, Gillian Flynn has produced two other thriller novels in quick succession before writing Gone Girl. These novels were called 'Sharp Objects' which she wrote in 2006 and then 'Dark Places' which she wrote in 2009. Although these novels are of the same genre, they do not relate to each other in terms of plot content.

After Crown Publishing group published Gone Girl in 2012, it reached to prestigious New York Times Best Sellers list and stayed there for eight weeks. By the end of its first year of publishing Gone Girl had sold over two million copes in print and digital editions.

A film adaptation has recently been made of Gone Girl, directed by David  Fincher and starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike. The film was released on 3rd October 2014. There are predictions of Gone Girl earning David Fincher his first oscar for Best Director after he has already been nominated twice for The Social Network and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Gone Girl was his biggest box opening ever with an estimated $37.5 million. His adaptation wowed critics with mostly four and five stars across the board and 88% rating on rottentomatoes.com.

The plot of Gone Girls concentrates on two characters who are married to each other called Amy and Nick Dunne. As the plot unfurls the reader is constantly trying to figure out who is to blame for the crime.

Gillian Flynn was born in Kansas City Missouri in 1971, she is 43 and now lives in Chicago Illinois with her lawyer husband Brett Nolan and their two children. Flynn was a former television critic, working for U.S. News & World Report and Entertainment Weekly before she was made redundant in December 2008. Although she was writing part-time when she was working at Entertainment Weekly, her best work Gone Girl was created after she became unemployed.
