Yes, Gone Girl is scary! Well, I thought so anyway. I suppose it depends what sort of things you find scary, though. It's a psychological thriller, so it's not like traditional more "obvious" scary horror films, it relies on suspense and tension to get to you. If you have seen films like Se7en, Black Swan or Memento it's scary in that sort of way. You'll be on the edge of your seat and it will make you jump at several moments!
Gillian Flynn, the author of the book the film is based on, is famous for her suspenseful novels. Her other books Dark Places and Sharp Objects are written in the same vein. Legendary horror writer, Stephen King, describes Sharp Objects as "relentlessly creepy".
Reviews of Gone Girl have been positive, and I'd definitely recommend it. Though probably not to go to alone, or as a first date movie!
