Just come right out and ask for it. Say that you believe in reading to the baby early and that you want to create a library of books for the baby and would really like great board books instead of a greeting card. I think that most people would understand and would be happy to get you what you really want. Also, try adding them to your wishlist on www.suesbooks.info where they can look for it.
