When I was far younger I used to be really into the Artemis Fowl series of books, and I think they would make great films. Eoin Colfer - the author of Artemis Fowl has stated that there are plans in place to create a film based on the first two books. It would seem my wish may yet come true!

Artemis Fowl

The Artemis Fowl series is based upon the life and times of a teenage criminal mastermind who's goal is to restore his family's honor and riches to their former glory. Artemis does this by discovering and exploiting a fairy world which co-exists with humans in secret on earth.

As the series go on, the fairies (who have far superior technology than humans) eventually warm to Artemis and both parties team up to help keep the human and fairy world separate.

These books are really well-written, imaginative and fun, and that's why I think they have the potential to be a hit on screen as well as in print.

Ah, I loved the Artemis Fowl books when I was younger, great suggestion.

I'm a keen fan of J.R.R. Tolkien, and love the adaptations of The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but I would highly recommend Tolkien's 'The Silmarillion', both as a candidate for a big screen adaptation and if you've not already read it! It's a prequel to all things concerning the Bagginses, Gandalf, Gollum and all the rest. Despite it only being one volume, I'd put it on a par with George R. R. Martin's 'A Song of Ice and Fire' in terms of the scope and scale of its storyline, and not to mention dark enough to rival G. R. R. Martin when it comes to heaping on the tragedy! It's certainly not short on action either, and I think could certainly translate on to the big screen.

thanked the writer.

I've actually already read the Silmarillion and agree with you that it's a great book and it would most probably make a brilliant film. Still think I enjoyed Lord Of The Rings that little bit more though!

I'd really like to see "Blackwater" by Kerstin Ekman made into a film, preferably by the same producers who make the Swedish versions of the Henning Mankell "Wallander" books.

It's a beautifully understated Nordic crime novel, written well before Scandinoir became so popular with the mainstream, and - if made with the Scandinavians' usual emphasis on subtlety, character development and great visuals - would make a fabulous and atmospheric film.
