He was pulled out of school, at the age of 14, by his father, as finances were rather scarce around that time. Shakespeare went to work in his father's shop, making gloves, He was a 'wittawer' or, worker of kid leather. Later, or so it is said, he was a tutor to a Lancashire landowner's family. Some say he was a lawyer's clerk, and others that he was hounded out of Stratford by Sir Thomas Lucy, county sherriff, for poaching deer. (Lucy put deer on his estate in 1619, Shakespeare died in 1616.)

He was taken out of school at the age of 14 by his father who had fallen on hard times. His father put him to work in the family business, which was in the trade of, "Whittawer", or, worker in white kid leather, a glover. It is later thought,by scholars, that he was a schoolmaster in a Lancashire house. Still others cling to the belief that he was forced out of Stratford, by being hounded by the local magistrate for poaching his deer, a theory laughed at by the fact that the said magistrate did not stock his park with deer, until 3 years after Shakespeare died!
