Zero and Stanley have to dig holes because they each "committed a crime" and are too young to go to prison. So as their parents are informed that this is a camp that teaches kids that crimes are wrong, Zero and Stanley are brought to the middle of no where to dig holes looking for treasure. But as they both get fed up with the digging, they each run away from the camp site deeper into no where. They live on "Gods Thumb" until Stanley has a feeling that his hole held the treasure. So Zero and Stanley dig into Stanley's hole and find the treasure chest. This helped them survive because without the treasure, Stanley's family would never had found their family's fortune.
