He is mostly associated with the Globe. It was erected from the "Theatre", a playhouse built by James Burbage, father of Richard, in 1576, at Shoreditch, just outside the City of London boundary. After a dispute with the landowner, Giles Allen, the company of actors literally pulled down the Theatre, and resurrected it, on Bankside, again, outside of the City of London boundary, in1599, where it remains to this day, albeit, in a much more modern form, with a grand view of St Paul's across the river! The first Shakespearean play performed, was Julius Caesar, with Shakespeare as Caesar.
