Katniss Everdeen is the main character in The Hunger Games, which is a Young Adult trilogy by Suzanne Collins.
In both the novels and the movie, Katniss is characterized by the following traits:
Independent – After the death of her father, and her mother’s subsequent depression, Katniss learned to take care of herself and her little sister. Because of this, she is a strong person who is capable of doing things by herself.
Brave – Even before taking part in the Hunger Games, Katniss was used to being brave – she had to look after her little sister Prim, and learned to be strong for her.
Loyal – Katniss remains loyal to her family, and still has faith in Peeta, even after he’s been brainwashed to believe she’s evil.
Selfless – Katniss is prepared to die for those she loves; she enters the Hunger Games so her sister Prim doesn’t have to, she takes a whipping to protect Gale, and is prepared to die for Peeta.
Resourceful – Katniss had a difficult upbringing, which taught her to fend for herself and make the most of her surroundings. She is used to hunting and scavenging for food, and learns during the Hunger Games to protect herself and use her bow as a weapon.
