Written in 1894, The Jungle Book is a collection of stories written by Rudyard Kipling, using the knowledge he had acquired from his research about the jungle. All of the stories were published in magazines in 1893 -1894 and the original publications contained illustrations, some drawn by Rudyard's father, John Lockwood Kipling.
In the book and the film, Mowgli is a little boy who has been brought up by wolves in the jungle and he befriends a brown bear called Baloo. Baloo takes Mowgli under his wing and shows him the ways of the jungle. Because of its moral tones, the Jungle Book became used as a motivational tool for the Cub Scouts.
Since the book, there have been several Disney adaptations based loosely on the Mowgli stories and it has been filmed several times with different characters an d is hugely popular with adults and kids alike.
