Sounds like it is getting too much sun. Aloe plants like shade/indirect sunlight and not a lot of water.

When you transplanted the aloe vera into different pots did you trim off the dry pieces? If you have the plants against a window for sunlight....it might be that it is too cold for them....when the weather begins getting colder where I live I have noticed that some of my aloe veras will begin to turn reddish brown at the tips indicating me to place them in the greenhouse for the winter.
