These two books pretty much sum me up ....
Not only do our cells reincarnate periodically so that the cells we have no are far removed from those we were born with; but the personality can also replace itself from time to time. Hopefully!
So one book won't do the trick.
As a child, full of optimism and imagination, my book would have been Alice in Wonderland.
As a young man I'd graduated to Don Quixote.
By the time I'd acquired Mrs Didge and the Didglings, I'd moved up to Hamlet. ("Neither a borrower nor a lender be.")
Then the Didglings reached their teens and my book became The Pacifist's Guide to Self-Flagellation. (Yes, there really is such a book.)
But the Didglings flew the nest and I then lived in a most enjoyable ménage a trois with Mrs Didge and my laptop. My book was now Cry Freedom!
But even that couldn't last and my life is no longer a book but a poem. It's called The Senility Prayer:
God grant me the senility
to forget the people I never liked anyway,
the good fortune to run into the ones I do,
and the eyesight to tell the difference.
"Rebel without a cause".
