Lol, yah I guess the best word to describe studio ghibli films is "weird", but I guess that's why I like them actually.
I didn't really understand my neighbors the yamadas either though.
"Whisper of the heart" was probably my favorite studio ghibli movie, and then "castle in the sky" too.

Castle in the sky is a true classic along with princess mononoke and porco ross there probably my favourites of ghibli collection they rarely if ever make a bad film

I occasionally like to read the manga first then watch the anime to try and spot the differences because procrastination for the win. But kidding aside manga is fun to read as it's portable like if I'm in school and I'm like, 'I really could use some one piece right now' I just take the books out and read them. The only downside is the cost of buying so many. Also here's a funny thing if it's a viz media translation they always put in the backs a image of a character depending on the series and a caption that's says you're reading the wrong way as manga is read left to right. Bleaches caption was rukia basically standing truimphunt over a defeated ichigo
