There are many indisputable advantages of reading books. However, I can't personally think of very many disadvantages to reading them!

Advantages of Reading Books
- You'll improve your vocabulary without even realizing it: The more you read, the more words you'll absorb without even noticing. You'll gradually learn what words mean by looking at the context in which they appear, and you can always look up the really difficult ones in a dictionary!
- You'll become a better writer. You can practice writing all you want, but if you don't read, you won't develop an ear for what works and what doesn't.
- Reading is entertaining. If you get hold of a good book, you can spend hour upon hour lost in the story without even realizing that time has passed. This doesn't happen with TV!
- You'll learn about social issues, cultures and historical periods that you previously knew nothing about.
- Books are an invaluable research tool.
- You'll have something in common with the insanely attractive guy reading Of Mice And Men in your local café.
Disadvantages of Reading Books
- You can get eyestrain if you read for too long without taking a break.
- A sense of despair when the book ends and you suddenly realize that you're a real person with a real apartment and a cat that you haven't fed since yesterday.
- It's considered "uncool" by some people - at least it is before you reach your mid-teens.
