The experience of being a stripper can vary greatly depending on where the stripper works, what motivates them to strip, and their perspective on the industry. I'll list the pros and cons which will give you a better idea or what life as a stripper can be like.

Pros

  • A dancer can make a lot of money usually in a short period of time, and often the harder they work the more money they will make
  • Part of being a stripper is actually liaising with the customers before they have had a dance. Dancers usually need confidence and powers of persuasion in order tempt the customer to have a dance
  • Some dancers find the experience of stripping empowering
  • The job is very physically demanding and so you have to stay in shape to be able to dance. Being in shape may also increase your earnings
  • Stripping often allows dancers to pursue other avenues of work or education, and so many dancers see it as the bridge they need to get where they want to be
  • It is relatively sociable job, and it can be a lot of fun

Cons

  • Strippers often make a lot of their money from tips, and so the income is less predictable and uncertain
  • Often the club where a dancer works will take a tare cut of what you earn
  • Stripping requires a level of intimacy that may be out of some peoples comfort zones
  • There is generally a social stigma surrounding the occupation, and so dancers must decide whether to face this, or keep their job a secret
  • Some strippers get sucked into a negative lifestyle as a result of working in the adult entertainment industry
  • Being a stripper is competitive business as dancers to not typically paid hourly, but instead they must often work against each other to secure their dances
  • Some women find working as a stripper degrading, and many are subject to abuse. Usually customers have been drinking which tends to reflect in the way their customer treat them
  • Some strippers don't enjoy working as strippers or the industry, and this can affect their outlook on life and the world
  • It may be difficult for a stripper to form relationships and not all people will be comfortable with their partner stripping for a living
  • Stripping is physically a lot of hard work, and strippers need to take care of their bodies
Here is a video in which a stripper describes some of her experiences as a stripper:

Whilst a stripper may be able to make a good living from dancing, it is not for the faint hearted. It requires resilience, confidence, and a positive perspective.

If a dancer has issues of self-esteem, or has been lead to this life by unfortunate circumstances, then it is likely that stripping will have a negative emotional impact on the dancer. As with any job you have to want to do it and enjoy it to get the most out of it.
