I believe it takes years to really VALUE art. When u r young, u kinda just look at it and then u listen to all of the bull in college classes. I t wasn't until I travelled that I really started appreciating art. Wisdom and appreciation come with age, I suppose.

Most people do, some only do it for the money. I personally think some art is junk, but others think it is AMAZING

That's A Difficult Thing To Answer Because Art Is Full Of A Wide Variety Of Moods  Designs  Colors And Ideas... What One Person Thinks Is Worth 50 Dollars,, Could Be Worth 5 Grand to Someone Else.. My Fave Artist  Is Van Gogh..  I Think It's Because He Was A Sad Misunderstood Man Who Never Saw Fame .. He Was Recognized After He Died.. I Have A "Starry Starry Night" Painting  Above My Couch In My Living Room.. Listen To The Words Of "Starry Starry Night" And You See How He Felt His Whole Life.. I Don't Understand Some Of The Sculptures Out There... I Am Fascinated By Michelangelo.. How Can He Paint That Ceiling Up SO High. So Gloriously.. Look At Grandma Moses...  I Don't Understand That Mapplethorpe Guy Who Was Obsessed With Nudity......I Enjoy Sculptors More Than Paintings I Guess Because I Love To Touch Art... I Love To Watch Someone Work With Their Hands ...I Don't Understand Like 2 Million For A Painting Though. I Like Leroy Neimans Work Too

One cannot generalize or make "blanket statements" about patrons of the arts.

Each patron should be judged on their individual merits, IMHO.

Art is often discussed in reverent tones , we invest in it, create daunting palaces for it.
Most art is not taken to seriously, unless the person is a very literal person but most people are not.

Yeah people actually do because its a way that they can express themselves if u see dark colors that may portray sadness.... But if people need something to express their emotions. Art is great for them!!

Oh, yeah, some do & one can make a very good living from it. Take the Mona Lisa for example. She's worth MILLIONS & whoever painted her made a lot of moola from it.

I love art and my house is full of art and good art if I may say so myself, but its not necessarily very valuable, any good and well known artists work only become very valuable once he or she is dead.  Art must make sense to me.  It must tell a story and that is why I hate modern art, it says absolutely nothing to me and don't tell me you have to read between the lines because I don't know what you as a modern artist were thinking about and in what kind of mood you were in when you did the piece.  My whole house is a work of art and each and every room has a different thyme and so my art must blend in with the rest of the room, so when I get someone to do a piece for me then I will tell them exactly what I want and also bring them to the room so they can get the colors exactly right.  I was fortunate that my (ex) husband is an artist himself so he did almost everything for me and lots of his work is all over the world but he refuse to do any modern art

What you appreciate and value as art may not be the same thing I value and appreciate as art.  I do not appreciate the modern art pieces be it paintings or sculpture.  I am more of a realist in life and art, I suppose.  I care little if the price tag on a piece is large or small when I am looking to make a purchase.  If I like it and it speak to me then the $ amount can be $59 and I will be just as happy with it as you would be if you found your piece in the best studio in London.  To me, art is only as valuable as I think it is.  When I buy something it is not with the thought in mind that I will sell it at a later date and make a profit.  I buy it for myself because I like it - period.

I'm assuming we've all known or met someone who tries to portray themselves as "Deep" by gushing over these famous works of art.
You can usually spot these people when you ask for their interpretation of the piece.
Those people exaggerate the market value by commenting mindlessly on the works without ever forming a personal opinion about the pieces. They are like parrots who spit out catch phrases and slogans.

Real art is always such a personal experience, I absolutely love a couple of Sunday morning comic strips - they are art to me in every sense of the word. But they will never be featured in a reputable museum.

I do not think so. I mean maybe art is just their  thing....there are so many different ways to express art. Art is not always a painting or drawing. I think we all have that one thing that just drives us wild and for some people that thing is art.

Not nearly serious enough. I hate when people make art the butt of a joke, like that poop-art junk.

Like most people i think a lot of what they call art is made just to see if someone will actually fork over some money for it. And then there is art no one has a problem telling it is art.in other words if it quacks like a duck it's art. And then you have galleries and auction houses that find things that no one in the world would know that it's art until they stick a 100 k sticker price on it.oh! And i especially like when they take someones art(if you can call it that) after they have passed on and then buy it up and then sell it at a gallery marking outrageous pricing on them ,when before the man(person) that made them could not sell them if his life depended on it and apparently did.he starved to death waiting to be discovered.i just watched someone buy a sylvester stallone painting (meaning he painted it) for 45 k.they must think stallone is getting ready to pass on.the best one i ever saw was on the road show i think that's what they call it. They priced what they call a folk art pipe for tens of thousands even though they did not know who actually made it.i guess what i am saying is most of what they call art is only in the eyes of a certain group of people that then try to convince others that it's actually art. I would only take art seriously if i had to pay for damaging it.ex:drop kicking a chocolate milkshake on the mona lisa only to find what's his faces face underneath when they tried to clean it. : )
