When using color in screen design to encode information, the colours have high different intensities which is more easier to differentiate the colour. Normally most of the screen displays use either light characters on dark background or vise versa. Hence it is visible irrespective of colour due to the difference of intensity. This is more useful even for the individuals who got colour blind.
