Every object has the capacity to absorb and reflect light. There are mainly 7 sets of light rays due to which we can see color on objects.
those colrs are VIBGYOR the colors of rainbow. The colrs which are absorbed by the object are not seen. But the ones which it reflects are are thought to be the objects color. For example: In the case of a leaf (which is green), the leaf absor the red and the blue rays of light. But the green light is reflected. So the leaf appears to be green. Those leaves which are not gree they actually absorb the green light. This case is similar for all objects too. Now the reason why there are more than those 7 colors is that the colors sometimes mix up. If you want to know more than study the chapter in physic called  SPECTRUM.
