Why Does Gatsby View Daisy's Child With Surprise?

Because he thought that, like his love for her, Daisy's love for him was total and complete.  Like the courtly love of the medieval period, Gatsby's love was pure and unsullied.  The child is a shocking reminder that Daisy is indeed married to Nick, and that they do have love for each other, even if it is just a physical love.
