Mikhail Baryshnikov was born in Riga, Latvia, a country then a part of the USSR, on January 28, 1948. His father was an engineer and his mother was a seamstress by profession.
In childhood, he liked ballet, but didn't pay attention to the subtleties of the profession. However, his mother liked ballet and made him enroll in The School of Theatre Opera Ballet at the age of 12. He liked the Piano also and sometimes while playing the Piano, he got enamoured with dance, and it was because of this he pursued his career as a dancer.
In the year 1963, when he was visiting Leningrad, he applied and joined the class of Aleksandr Pushkin, who earlier had trained Rudolf Nureyev also. After the completion of his studies in the year 1966, he made his debut as a soloist in Giselle and became a world famous dancer.
