William Shakespeare was an English writer acclaimed as the greatest of all English writers. He is also one of the greatest writers in western literature.

William Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-Avon, a town on the River Avon in South Warwickshire, England. He was born in 1564, as the son of John Shakespeare and Mary Arden. The exact place of his birth is thought to be a family house on Henley Street.

Lack of historical proofs puts doubts on the early life of William Shakespeare. It is assumed that he started his formal education in King Edward VI Grammar School in central Stratford.

Stratford-upon-Avon, the town of his birth is now a popular tourist destination for the same reason. This town belongs to the district named Stratford-on-Avon, whereas the official name of the town is Stratford-upon-Avon.

Stratford-upon-Avon, or Stratford for short, is very close to Birmingham, the second largest city in the United Kingdom. The town is well connected through rail from London and from Birmingham.
