You would have to have it evaluated/appraised by an expert to find out if it is old, an original and what it would be worth.

First of all make sure it is a painting and not a print. If it is a painting is it signed ?
If so, then take it to either an art dealer or an auction house where they will be able to give you an estimation of it's worth .
