How Old Was Shakespeare When He Started To Write?

No one really knows!

He christened his twins, Hamnet and Judith in 1585, and then disapppeared!

He surfaced 7 years later, in London, pilloried by a dissolute playwright Robert Greene, who introduced him  with the tirade, "There is an upstart crow among us!"...

Shakespeare was ALREADY a well known playwright at this time, having first written the Henry VI series of three plays, shortly to be followed by Richard 111 to complete the Tetralogy, whilst in between filling in with Titus Andronicus, (written in Latin) and one or more comedies.

 

His writing career really took off somewhere in 1585 so he must have been 21 at the time.

He started writing when he was thirty four. He wrote some of the master pieces in the field of comedy, tragedy as well as history.

Shakespeare began to write for the stage in the late 1580s, and he started with the Henry VI trilogy. I think the exact year was 1589 when he was 25 years old.

Some believe that most of Shakespeare's writing occurred between 1590 and 1613. There are skeptics who think that the works attributed to William Shakespeare were actually written by another writer, or a group of writers. The one most often cited as the real author is Francis Bacon.
