Zip stands for Zone Information Protocol and is a popular data compression format that compresses a file into an archive so that it occupies less disk space. This file is called a zip file and generally ends with a zip extension. It usually consists of one or more compressed files that allow us to efficiently transport, e-mail, download and store data and software fast. Zip files are used to distribute files on the internet, send a group of related files to an associate and last but not the least, to save disk space.

A compression utility is needed to store files in a zip format or to access these files from a zip archive. The most popular of these utilities is WinZip for Windows. It utilizes a standard Windows feature of point - and - click drag - and - drop interface for viewing, running, extracting, adding, deleting and testing files in zip files. It quickly zips and unzips the files to save disk space and reduce e-mail transmission time.

A file is chosen, we choose the wizard and refer to this chosen file, and by our mouse click relevant parts, and compress our file, to make it smaller, and take up less space.
